Epic Ski at Mt. Myra in Strathcona Park

Had an awesome trip this weekend leading a group up to Mt. Myra. We left the trailhead at Strathcona-Westmin at around 9am on Saturday. We were able to skin right from the trailhead and made good time, though there were a number of creeks crossing the trail at lower elevations which we needed to negotiate.

At about noon we reached the bridge crossing East Tennent Creek. This was not safe to cross because of the snow build up. Instead we skinned up the west side of the creek and set up camp at East Tennent Lake. Skinning up this area was no problem. East Tennent Lake was a great spot for scoping out possible ski lines down from the peak of the mountain.

Later in the afternoon, we skinned up from camp onto the ridge leading to the peak. This was relatively easy, though required a small amount of boot packing at the crux. We got up to about 1350m and had a nice ski down to camp at 1040m.

The next day, after a spectacular clear night lit up by a full moon, we set out at 8:15am. Using the skin track from the previous day we attained the ridge and continued on towards the peak. We made it up the sub-peak west of the main peak around noon and decided to ski down from there. It was an amazing ski that brought us right back down to camp.

The snow was really great, and even from camp we were able to ski down almost to the trailhead, we were back to the cars by 3:30pm
